Peaceful Warrior
Author: kylehubbard1959
|
IMDB rating: 6.90 Plot: A moving tale about the power of the human spirit, Peaceful Warrior is based on Dan Millman’s perennially best-selling autobiographical novel, Way of the Peaceful Warrior. In the film, Scott Mechlowicz plays Dan, a talented-yet-arrogant college gymnast with Olympic dreams and a golden future. The athlete thinks he has it all: bookcases of trophies, endless friends, fast rides and disposable relationships. But all that is about to change. One day, Dan’s world is turned upside down after a chance meeting with a mysterious stranger he comes to know as Socrates (Nick Nolte)-a man who holds the power to tap into new worlds of strength and understanding. After he suffers a debilitating injury, with the mystical help of Socrates and an elusive young woman named Joy (Amy Smart), Dan will grow to realize that strength of spirit is what leads a man to his true greatness. From a screenplay by Kevin Bernhardt, Peaceful Warrior is directed by Victor Salva and produced by Mark Amin, Cami Winikoff, Robin Schorr and David Welch. |

Do you think/believe 'Socrates' from Dan Millman's "Peaceful Warrior" actually existed?
Did anyone BESIDES Dan Millman account for this guy’s existence?

She enlists the aid of some highly intelligent, escaped lab rats that have built a subterranean society inside a rose bush near the farmer’s garden. The rats, led by the wise Nicodemus, decide to help her physically move her house to repay a debt of gratitude to her late husband, who made possible the rats’ escape from the laboratory. But things become complicated when some of the rats decide to use the situation to kill Nicodemus and make it appear to be accidental. |

Help, whats this children's movie possibly from 90s?
I saw a movie when I was a kid. I don’t remember much. It was an animation before the 90s and all i remember is one scene. There were 2 snakes hunting either a rat that hurt its foot, or a bird with a broken wing crawling along in tall grass trying to escape the two snakes.
unfortunately I have been thinking about this movie for some time and it is driving me nuts! I didn’t think it is a fievel film, tho not positive. also I was thinking Secret of NIMH but I really don’t think there are a 2 hunting snakes in NIMH. If anyone remembers that scene please give some inside information thanks
Could it have been "Riki Tiki Tavi?" The bird was pretending to have a broken wing so the mongoose (whose name is Riki Tiki Tavi, which is also the name of the movie) could destroy the snakes’ eggs.
This might not be what you’re thinking of, because it was a made in 1975. But it sounds close. Orson Wells narrated it–does that sound familiar? I’ve included a link that you can check out to see if this is the one you’re thinking of. It’s a part one of three so I’m not sure if it’ll have the scene you describe in it.

Hmm, the only animation that popped into my head was ‘The rescuers’ but I’m not sure if there was a scene with snakes.

It is NOT The Secret of Nimh.
It sounds a lot like the story Rikki Tikki Tavi. I found 3 different cartoon versions that have been done.

IMDB rating: 6.50 Plot: Wes Craven produces this remake of his 1977 classic of the same name, about the Carters, an idyllic American family travelling through the great American southwest. But their trip takes a detour into an area closed off from the public, but more importantly from society. An area originally used by the U.S. Government for nuclear testing that was intended to be empty…or so they thought? When the Carter’s car breaks down at the old site, they’re stranded…or are they? As the Carters may soon realize that what seemed like a car casually breaking down, might actually be a trap. This trap might be perpetrated by the inhabitants of the site who aren’t pulling a prank, but are out to set up a gruesome massacre. |

Adverse Weed Reaction?
I’m a pretty regular marijuana smoker, I smoke weed 5-8 times a week and usually quite a bit, I know, unhealthy…whatever. But recently I went skiing with a friend and we sat on the top of a ski hill and smoked one joint. I felt kind of high/buzzed, and was even trying to convince my friend to smoke another. I ordered a beaver tail (crepe like things with cinnamon and sugar), and could NOT swallow it and could barely talk. I forced the beaver tail down as I didn’t want to waste it. I attempted to put my ski boots in my skiis but could hardly manage. My hands were quite cold so I begged my friend to let us go into the lodge and warm up, unfortuantly, the lodge was down the slope. I could barely manage to get down the hill, and even somehow fell. I made it down in one piece and continued to go into the lodge. My hands were KILLING me because of the pain from going outside in the cold (about -11degrees celsius) into the warmth. The pain was excruciating. I sat down with my friend as I could hardly stand, and then went into a drunk-like state. I would try and close my eyes, but just feel sick and nauseous. I needed to throw up, so I went to the bathroom and on my way, I could see nothing, everything went black. I could bearly figure out which way I was going. I made it to the bathroom and sat in the stall and puked. My head was spinning and I felt awful, I was having minor hallucinations and eventually the whole trip stopped after a nap. I had a terrible headache and my motor skills were still not great.
I’ve done a decent amount of drugs, and used to do pop Benzo’s by the handfull. I sometimes hallucinate or get flashbacks when I smoke weed, but this time was highly irregular to what I’m used too. I’m just wondering what kind of reaction this is? Or what it might have been?
The Message
Author: kylehubbard1959
|
IMDB rating: 8.30 Plot: Handsomely-mounted historical epic concerns the birth of the Islamic faith and the story of the prophet Mohammed — who, in accordance with the tenants of Islam, is never seen or heard (as this is offensive to certain islamic schools of thought). In Mecca in the 7th century, Mohammed is visited by a vision of the Angel Gabriel, who urges him to lead the people of Mecca to cast aside the 300 idols of Kaaba and instead worship the one true God. Speaking out against the corrupt political and military leaders who rule Mecca. With the help of his uncle, a brave warrior named Hamza (Anthony Quinn), Mohammed and his followers return to Mecca to liberate the city in the name of God. The Message (originally screened in the U.S. as Mohammed, Messenger of God) proved to be highly controversial during its production and initial release. Unfounded rumors had it that Mohammed would not only be depicted in the film, but that he was to be played by Charlton Heston or Peter O’Toole. This resulted in angry protests by Muslim extremists, until director Moustapha Akkad hired a staff of respected Islamic clerics as technical advisors. The Message was shot in two versions, one in English and one in Arabic (entitled Al-Ris-Alah), with different actors taking over some of the roles due to language r equirements. |

This is so weird, what can it mean?
Every night I have dreams about having sexual contact with someone I used to be in love with who I now hate. I hate him because of what he did to my boyfriend of 2 and a half years, and after trying to split us up I just feel so angry all the time at him. He’s on the same college course as me and I see him most days.
But for some reason, every night I have dreams that we’re kissing and more. Mostly we see each other at a party I attend with my boyfriend, my boyfriend leaves halfway through to go to the shop with his mate to buy drinks, then me and the guy I dislike end up kissing and walking back to my house and… yeah.
Though, the one I had last night was even weirder – I invited him over, and my boyfriend showed up, I left the room for a minute, and when I came back he was standing there kissing my boyfriend in front of me, and then came over to kiss me. Mostly when I have these dreams they feel really real, and the images stay with me for weeks. Usually by the end of the dream I feel confused and angry and I often dream I’m hitting a wall or a fence, trying to get my anger out.
I read once that recurring dreams are a message from your subconscious desperately trying to tell you something – but what could it be trying to tell me? I don’t think about the guy in a sexual way until I’m asleep.
I believe dreams are about your subconscious trying to tell you something …but not ALWAYS.
Either in that case you really dont hate this guy not at all
OR
Maybe your just reliving him deceiving you and it affects you more than you think.

It means you want to dump your boyfriend and have an affair with him instead. Then you want to make him your boyfriend but want to have sex with him first.
Yes, you should follow your heart and do it.
ehx18 | Feb 04, 2010
You know. When there is passion in a relationship you typically love with the same passion that you hate with. I think your subconscious is trying to tell you that there is some underlying current of passion in there. Do you have that same passion with your bf?
Sherry | Feb 04, 2010
i think this shows your not over your ex boyfriend, get to meet him more and get to know him and work out whether you really hate him or not. Think about why he tried to break you and your current boyfriend up. Maybe he loves you? Think about who would be best for you and who you prefer.
and if you break up with your boyfriend then don’t tell him i suggested it! if you dream of him you honestly still are deeply in love with out you noticing

What was the standard, not carrier-based, fighter of the USA in WWII?
If there was a standard, not carrier based fighter for the US in WWII, what was it?
European theater. If there was no ’standard’ one, which was the most widely produced?
There wasn’t "a standard" fighter. Prior to 1943 the P-39, P-40 and P38 were the dominant types. The P-39 and P-40 were withdrawn as soon as newer types became available. The P-38 proved unsuccessful in northern Europe and was withdrawn but was enormously successful in the hotter, dryer climate of the South Pacific where it continued to serve throughout the war.
For most of the European campaign various models of the P-47 and P-51 dominated. The P-47 was available earlier and was used for long-range bomber escort missions but the P-51 proved far more suitable for this mission and P-47’s were re-assigned as tactical fighters attacking battlefield targets. The P-51 of course became famous for its role escorting bombers to Germany from bases in England. In the Pacific the P-51 was not popular and did not come into widescale use until the need arose to escort bombers to Japan from late 1944 on. Unlike the P-47 and P-38 the P-51 did not do well operating from rough forward airbases.
So no, there wasn’t a standard fighter because no one aircraft was capable of performing all the various missions required.
Mark F | Feb 07, 2010
Depends on the theatre and the year. There was no overall standard.
PGM | Feb 07, 2010
If I had to guess I would say the P-40 for the early part of the war and the P-51 for the later part of the war.
Legio XVII | Feb 07, 2010
P-51 Mustang.
Last Of My Kind | Feb 07, 2010
Depends. Early in the war the P-39 and P-40 were the standards. Later, the AAF adopted the P-38, the P-47 and the P-51.
Most if not all of the Navy/Marine Corps fighters were operated off land bases in the Solomon Islands as well as being carrier based.
Doug B | Feb 07, 2010
ditto marks answer, the fighter was not cooky cutter stamped, but ,over the 2-4 years, design involved
tailoring the engines, frame.machine guns, addition of supercharged hi octane fuel burning engines,on board oxygen, armoring the cockpit
e Republic P-47 was the successor of a line of airplanes derived from the Seversky P-35, the XP-41, P-43 Lancer and XP-44 Rocket. The P-47 design team headed by Alexander Kartveli, Republic Aircraft Corporations’s chief engineer, originally presented a design that was to be powered by a 1,150 hp Allison V-1710-39 engine with an armament of only two 0.50 inch machine guns.1 A contract was awarded by the USAAC in November 1939, and for an even lighter XP-47A, but as intelligence was coming back from the war in Europe, it was becoming apparent that the performance goals of the XP-47 program were already inadequate. The USAAC issued new requirements which included:
1. Airspeed of 400 mph at 25,000 feet.
2. Armament of six .50 caliber machine guns, preferably eight.
3. Armor plating to protect the pilot.
4. Self sealing fuel tanks.
5. A minimum of 315 gallons of fuel.
The specifications.) Additionally the airplane would include an efficient super-charging duct system that would offer the least interrupted airflow. Kartveli therefore adopted the unorthodox method of designing this feature first, and then building up the fuselage around it. Despite the fact that the supercharger was in the tail and the engine was in the nose, the arrangement worked quite well

I’ll give 1/2 a point for evolution because every theory or concept has its flaws.
I do believe in a higher intelligence of ’some kind’, but certainly not a christian or ‘religious’ god of any kind. We do create, human beings are creative creatures as well as creatures who seek and discover, so I will also give creationism 1/2 a point – but without any dogma attached to it.

IMDB rating: 6.20 Plot: The suicide of a priest marks the beginning of the end. We have this story seen through the eyes of two sorts of teams with the journalist Peter Bell and Mary, a girl who experienced a vision of the mentioned priest, in one hand and Gerry, a psychiatrist, and Sandra, one of his patients, in the other hand. With these four characters we are going to see a story that begins just with unusual and inexplicable things happening like the broke of a mirror without any logical explanation. But soon the death will be there and the only possible solution, of course, is to go deeper in the case of the priest before it’s too late. If they can’t end with the problem, the death bodies will never rest in peace again. |

Is Obama taking the USA to the brink of the 3rd world with threats to prosecute Bush?
No president before has sought to punish his predecessor for policy decisions, no matter how wrong or wrong-headed.
Lyndon B. Johnson’s management of the Vietnam War was often ham-handed, as anyone who was there could tell you, and his policy makers sometimes verged on criminal incompetence. But Richard Nixon was never tempted to send LBJ or any of those presidential acolytes to prison.
Abraham Lincoln, by his lights, would have had ample opportunity to hang Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee, but even the rabid Republicans who survived the assassination stopped short of putting Davis in the dock, finally releasing him from imprisonment at Fort Monroe when judgment overcame lust for revenge. Lee was never touched.
Exacting revenge for unpopular policies is the norm in the third world, heretofore more likely in Barack Obama’s ancestral Kenya than in the United States of America
http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/apr /24/the-steady-descent-into-the-third-wo rld/
Max read this very slowly. 3rd world means 3rd world country like Kenya and other poor nations that use revenge.
Michael P – My statement says that Jefferson Davis was imprisoned. That means put in jail.
Actually, as late as yesterday he was still playing "good cop" and stating that it would be a waste of time to pursue it all and that no committee should be formed to investigate the situation. He’s letting Pelosi froth at the mouth and play "bad cop", screaming for Bush’s head on a platter. It should be interesting to see how this all plays out, but I don’t believe we’ll turn into a third world nation over it.

The executive branch is there to enforce the laws
If he didn’t do anything, HE would be guilty of the crime of malfeasance

I think he is pushing us to the brink of third world with his economic policy, overspending, lack of accountability, and subsidizing those who come illegally and undercut labor standards.
I think prosecuting people who break the law, whomever that might be, should be a no brainer in a country following the rule of law, but should not be turned into a side show. Get a grand jury and go for it, not an unqualified House committee, for example.
DAR | Apr 24, 2009
Torture isn’t some internal affair we can choose to ignore.
Spain for one wanted to start its own investigation, others will follow.
This isn’t just an unpopular policy, its a war crime. I know we don’t want to think of this, we would rather say its a political witch hunt and blame Obama for starting this, but this is an international rule of law that the Bush Administration broke with his go-it-alone lack of understanding of the world we are in, treaties we have signed, and UN resolutions we have approved.
It not revenge, and its going to be seen as incredible arrogance to ignore it.
Law isn’t revenge, ignoring the law to appease the well placed goes on in third world countries too, you are asking that we do behave as a third world nation, and not be held accountable for actions that are illegal that were done in the our name.
Ain’t gonna fly.

Obama has never "threatened" to punish Bush. The idea is under study. If a crime was committed, don’t you think it should be punished? As I recall the ha ha "justice" system was vigorously used to abuse President Clinton–he was disbarred for a while because of his private affair. That was nothing but blind vengeance and a totally inappropriate prostitution of the justice system to political ends. President Clinton’s private personal affair was no crime. Starting a war that may have killed as many as a million Iraqis who never threatened this country, and bankrupting this country in the process, may very well be a crime, don’t you think? And don’t you think it would be a good idea to discourage presidential behavior like that in the future? Don’t you think the whole world would have been ahead in 1939 if Germany had arrested and punished Hitler for invading Poland, rather than letting that slide?

Lord of the Rings (Two Towers): Forbidden Pool -question about this scene!?
In the movie, Lord of the Rings:Two Towers, there is a scene of Smeagol/Gollum in the forbidden pool and is almost killed until Frodo negotiates to be the one to get him out.Unexpectedly, Smeagol/Gollum gets jumped and I know at this point he feels a sense of betrayal from Frodo.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6VBNRUyT r8
that is the scene
As for my question, I’m not a big LOTR fan… but I had to watch it for school and Have been asked to do an assignment about Gollum/Smeagol’s personality and how an event can bring out the different personalities for him. Unfortunately, I missed one day at school when we were watching it and I missed a good 80 minutes of it
I really do not have the time to watch the full movie again.
I wanted to incorporate this scene into my essay because I know afterwards, Smeagol feels betrayed by Frodo and Gollum comes to surface. That is like that only thing i can remember about this scene!
Can anyone give me a bit more detail? Like where did Faramir come from? Why were there so many people there? and most importantly, what led up to this event and what happens afterwards? Any help would be greatly appreciated and it would save me a LOT of time
thank you so much in advanced!
I’d suggest reading that bit of the book. the pool was sacred to Faramir people, forbidden to strangers. Frodo asked golom to trust him and faramirs men captured him breifly with frodos help. the last time golom was captured it was by the orcs and he was tortured for months, so you can see why he dosn’t like being held against his will.

The forbidden pool is not really ‘forbidden,’ Faramir just wanted Frodo Baggins to admit that Gollum/Smeagol is his companion (When Fordo and Samwise Gamgee was captured by Faramir and company, Faramir interrogated Frodo and when Faramir asked about Gollum the "gangrel creature with an ill-fated look,’ Frodo said they have no other companion.) Faramir and company are guarding Gondor from the imminent attack of their enemies.
When Gollum was captured, he squealed about the Ring of Power, and Faramir saw an opportunity to impress his father, Denothor, the Steward of Gondor by presenting him the Ring of Power and used it as their ultimate weapon. But of course Faramir has never succumb to the temptation of the Ring and so forth and so on.

Couldn’t you just rent out the movie and then select the scene that you want to watch? Anyway, when Faramir is questioning Gollum, Gollum says "They stole it from us!" Faramir then says "What did they steal?", to which Gollum replies "My precious! AAAHHHH!"
As for Faramir, he is Boromir’s brother (who was a member of the Fellowship Of The Ring). Boromir was killed by an orc in the first movie, while trying to defend Merry and Pippin. Only moments before this, he had attempted to take the ring from Frodo and take it to his father Lord Denathor, in Gondor (where he and Faramir grew up). Faramir is the Captain of Gondor, and has always been his father’s least favourite son. Denathor is the Steward of Gondor, and he wants Faramir to give him the Ring in hope of using it as a weapon against the enemy. However this isn’t possible, because the Ring itself kind of has a mind of its own, and it’s loyal only to Sauron, who made the ring in the first place. Although Faramir knows that it’s wrong to try to use the ring against Sauron, he is tempted to take the ring to Gondor because he wants to win his father’s approval. He eventually decides to let Frodo, Sam and Gollum go, because he realises what the consequences will be if the Ring goes to Gondor. All the other people there were also from Gondor, and were simply helping Faramir get rid any enemies in the surrounding area.
At the end of the movie, as Gollum is leading Frodo and Sam to Mordor, he secretly comes up with a plan to kill the hobbits and take the ring for himself.

Faramir had been banished from his land of Gondor by his bewitched father. He had a group of soldiers loyal to him and that is the people that were at the Forbidden Pool with him. Frodo is taken captive by Faramir to return the one ring that rules all back to Gondor to restore its former might. Eventually Faramir lets Frodo and Sam Gamgee go to destroy the ring again.
